Route description

MD 171 begins at an intersection with MD 2 (Governor Ritchie Highway) in Brooklyn Park. The state highway heads east as a two-lane street with a speed limit of 30 mph (48 km/h) through a densely-populated residential neighborhood.[1] After passing 6th Street, MD 171 enters the city of Baltimore and the speed limit decreases to 25 mph (40 km/h).[2] After passing through the Curtis Bay neighborhood, the state highway meets its eastern terminus at MD 173, which is formed by a one-way pair, Pennington Avenue southbound and Curtis Avenue northbound, on the edge of the Curtis Bay Industrial Area.[3]

History

MD 171 was paved in Anne Arundel County in 1935.[4] The state highway was completed in Baltimore City by 1946.[5]
