History
The City, originally a District Council, was the product of a merger between the District Council of Encounter Bay and the Corporation of Victor Harbor on 31 October 1975. In 1996–1997, a merger with the small neighbouring councils in Port Elliot and Goolwa, which form a contiguous coastal connurbation with Victor Harbor, was considered, but ultimately Victor Harbor remained distinct and the other councils merged to form the District Council of Alexandrina. On 1 February 2000, Victor Harbor was proclaimed a City.[2]
The town has 10 councillors and no wards. Each councillor serves a four-year term. The current mayor is Graham Philp.
