The Brunswick, Georgia Metropolitan Statistical Area, known colloquially as metropolitan Brunswick, consists of Glynn County (Brunswick, St. Simons Island, and Jekyll Island), Brantley County, and McIntosh County. In 2005, the population of the MSA was 98,433 (though a July 1, 2007 estimate placed the population at 101,792).[1] The Brunswick Metropolitan Statistical Area was first defined in 2003[2] and is the twelfth largest metropolitan area in the state of Georgia.

Demographics

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 93,044 people, 36,846 households, and 25,557 families residing within the MSA. The racial makeup of the MSA was 73.30% White, 24.13% African American, 0.26% Native American, 0.49% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.73% from other races, and 1.06% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.44% of the population.

The median income for a household in the MSA was $33,076, and the median income for a family was $38,960. Males had a median income of $31,138 versus $21,288 for females. The per capita income for the MSA was $16,558.
