As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 110,765 people, 40,911 households, and 30,233 families residing in the county. Thepopulation density was 294 people per square mile (114/km²). There were 44,509 housing units at an average density of 118 per square mile (46/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 70.57% White, 24.76% Black or African American, 0.34% Native American, 1.59% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 1.03% from other races, and 1.65% from two or more races. 3.04% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.There were 40,911 households out of which 38.40% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.00% were married couples living together, 14.00% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.10% were non-families. 22.10% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.20% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.10.
In the county the population was spread out with 28.20% under the age of 18, 9.50% from 18 to 24, 31.80% from 25 to 44, 21.30% from 45 to 64, and 9.30% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 96.90 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.40 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $43,638, and the median income for a family was $50,384. Males had a median income of $36,031 versus $25,537 for females. The
per capita income for the county was $19,515. About 8.40% of families and 10.20% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 14.30% of those under age 18 and 9.50% of those age 65 or over.Education
