History
The land for Lee, Muscogee, Troup, Coweta, and Carroll counties was ceded by the
Creek people in the 1825Treaty of Indian Springs . The counties' boundaries were created by theGeorgia General Assembly onJune 9 , but they were not named untilDecember 14 ,1826 . The county was named in honor ofRichard Henry Lee .Geography

census GR|2 of 2000, there were 24,757 people, 8,229 households, and 6,797 families residing in the county. Thepopulation density was 70 people per square mile (27/km²). There were 8,813 housing units at an average density of 25 per square mile (10/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 82.24% White, 15.50% Black or African American, 0.24% Native American, 0.84% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.48% from other races, and 0.68% from two or more races. 1.21% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.There were 8,229 households out of which 48.30% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.80% were married couples living together, 13.00% had a female householder with no husband present, and 17.40% were non-families. 14.30% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.30% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.91 and the average family size was 3.21.
In the county the population was spread out with 30.70% under the age of 18, 8.50% from 18 to 24, 33.20% from 25 to 44, 21.30% from 45 to 64, and 6.30% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 102.10 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.20 males.
The median income for a household in the county was $48,600, and the median income for a family was $53,132. Males had a median income of $39,848 versus $25,715 for females. The
per capita income for the county was $19,897. About 6.50% of families and 8.20% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 10.50% of those under age 18 and 11.70% of those age 65 or over.Cities and towns
