Maria da Assunção Andrade Esteves[1] (born October 15, 1956 in Valpaços) is a Portuguese politician and was a Member of the European Parliament for the Social Democratic Party–People's Party coalition; part of the European People's Party–European Democrats group.[2]

On 21 June 2011 she was elected President of the Assembly of the Republic and it is the first woman elected as President of the Assembly of the Republic.[3]
