Philip Bushill-Matthews

Philip Bushill-Matthews (born on 15 January 1943 in Droitwich)is a British politician and Member of the European Parliament for the West Midlands with the Conservative Party, part of the European Democrats and sits on the European Parliament's Committee on Employment and Social Affairs.

He is a substitute for the Committee on Foreign Affairs and also a member of the Delegation for relations with Iran.

He was first elected to the European Parliament in 1999, before being elected he was the managing director of several food manufacturing businesses and is a Fellow of the Institute of Directors.

In 2008 he didn't submit his name for re-selection as Conservative candidate at 2009 European Elections and will stand stand as MEP the following year.

On June 5 2008, Bushill-Matthews was thrown into the position as acting Leader of the Conservative MEPs after Giles Chichester was forced to step down after withdrawing parliamentary funds for private use. [http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/feedarticle/7565491]
