15 January 1951 inStrasbourg )is a former Minister of Culture ofFrance and nowMember of the European Parliament for the East of France.She was elected as mayor of
Strasbourg in 1989, re-elected in 1995, then defeated in 2001.She is a member of the Socialist Party, part of the
Party of European Socialists and sits on theCommittee on Industry, Research and Energy .She is a substitute for the
Committee on Culture and Education and also a member of theDelegation for relations withCanada .Career
