State Highways in ¬← NH 116 NH 119 → National Highway 117 (NH 117), is a National Highway in India that runs entirely within the state of West Bengal. The north-western terminal is in Kona, near the town of Nibra, Howrah district and the southern terminal is in the coastal town of Bakkhali in South 24 Parganas district. The length of this highway is 133 km (83 mi). It connects the cities of Howrah, Kolkata, Diamond Harbour, Kulpi and Bakkhali with NH 2 and NH 6.
8 km (5.0 mi) long Kona Expressway serves as a connector of Kolkata to NH2 and hence is part of Golden Quadrangle project.[2] At Nibra town of the Howrah district, Kona Expressway joins to NH 6 as well.[3] Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) is setting up Rubber Park and Foundry Park around the area covered by Salap, Bankra, Nibra and Tentulkuli.[3] Along with Diamond Harbour Road, this erstwhile State Highway forms National Highway 117, connecting NH6 to the coastal town of Bakkhali. NH-117 has a length of 133 km (83 mi).[4] The Ministry of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways accorded National Highway status to these two roads, which formed NH-117 together. However, due to land acquisition issues, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has declared their plan to return these two roads to state government, also pointing out to the heavy traffic on Diamond Harbour Road and to the existence of multitude of underground utilities there.[5]
