Timothy S. Kachinski has been a Southgate School Board Trustee since 2005 when he was elected at age 19. He graduated with a B.A. in economics in 2006 from the University of Michigan. He served for 2 years as a preschool teacher in the Jumpstart/Americorps program. He comes from the libertarian wing of the Republican Party. He is a strong advocate of the non-partisan FairTax proposal, a voluntary system of jury duty, freedom of contract, and limited government. He supports the State-wide ballot initiative to lift prohibition on the medical use of marijuana and believes in the separation of church and state. He plans to reform school of choice laws in Michigan to allow parents to direct some funds into personal scholarship accounts making schools not just accountable in terms of performance, but financially accountable to parents as well. Kachinski also supports expanded oil exploration, expanded gun rights, longer sentences for child rape, and opposes warrant-less wiretapping.
Timothy Kachinski won the Republican Primary on August 5, 2008 with 1089 votes (53%).
