The Michigan gubernatorial election of 1990 was held on November 6 of that year.
The contest was between James Blanchard, who was seeking his third term, and State Senate majority leader John Engler.
In what turned out to be one of the closest elections in recent memory, Engler won by a 17,000 margin.
