Myocardial scarring

Myocardial scarring

Myocardial scarring is fibrous tissue that replaces normal tissue destroyed by injury or disease pertaining to the muscular tissue of the heart.

Myocardial scarring occurs in myocardial infarction, and also results from the surgical repair of congenital heart disease. Such scarring can disrupt the electrical conduction system of the heart, and may also irritate surrounding viable ventricular myocytes making them more likely to depolarize spontaneously.
