Cardiac muscle cell Latin cardiomyocytus; myocytus cardiacus Code TH H2.00.05.2.02004 A cardiac muscle cell or myocardiocyte (also known as cardiomyocyte[1] or cardiac myocyte[2]) is the myocyte specific to the myocardium (the heart muscle). Each myocardial cell contains myofibrils, which are long chains of sarcomeres, the contractile units of the cell. Myocardiocytes show similar patterns to skeletal muscle cells, but unlike multinucleated skeletal cells, myocardiocytes contain only one or two nuclei.
Myocardiocytes can contain vimentin and desmin.[3]
