Michael Wolf is the founder and managing partner of ACTIVATE, a technology and strategy firm. He also currently serves on the boards of Entercom Communications Corporation.[1] (NYSE: ETM), the fourth-largest broadcasting company in the United States, iAmplify.com,[2] a Web-based content publisher and syndication network and the world's largest selection of expert video and audio downloads, and on the Board of Advisors for Slide.com,[3] the world’s leading social entertainment company, which was sold to Google for approximately 200 million dollars in August 2010. Michael Wolf was formerly the president and COO of MTV Networks.[4][5] During his tenure at MTV Mr. Wolf became one of Mark Zuckerberg's early mentors, as chronicled in "The Facebook Effect", by David Kirkpatrick[6] Wolf formerly was a Director of McKinsey & Company,[7] the international consultancy, and head of its Global Media and Entertainment Practice. Before joining McKinsey in 2001,[8] Wolf was a senior partner with Booz & Company, where he spearheaded its media and entertainment group.[9] Wolf is the author of publications on the subjects of entertainment,[10] economics,[11] non-fiction, e-business[12] strategies and the development of global media. Michael was named by Silicon Alley 100 as one New York's Coolest Tech People In 2010.[13]


His bestselling book on entertainment economics, The Entertainment Economy: How Media Forces Are Transforming Our Lives was published in the U.S. in 1999 and then globally. He is a frequent contributor and op-ed columnist for publications such as the Wall Street Journal,[14][15][16] Forbes,[17] and the New York Times, and has written for a number of journals and business publications.


Michael Wolf is also a well-known public speaker,[18] entertainment economist and leader of media and entertainment programs, including heading panels[19] at the World Economic Forum in Davos in 2009. Participants in the 2009 conference included: Al Gore, Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, Michael Wolf, Bono, Paulo Coelho, Gordon Brown and Tony Blair.
