An occasional 1960s song is played. Musically, the station is similar to competitor WMYI; although the station plays more music from the 2000s and more from the 1980s and 1990s.
Although it has gained some ground against
WMYI in the ratings throughout late 2007 and 2008, it remains a semi-distant second.In 2008, the station added what it calls 'song tags.' These are played after every song played on the station stating the artist and the name of the song in a semi-robotic voice recorded by the station's female voice talent.
History
WSPA-FM signed on the air August 29th, 1946 as the sister station to WSPA AM 950. It was South Carolina's first FM radio station. Also, on August 1st 1960, WSPA-FM became the first station in South Carolina (as well as the Southeast) to broadcast in
stereo .For many years WSPA-FM was a
beautiful music station. In the early 90s the station changed to MOR. Later, the station became known as "Lite Rock 98.9", then the station evolved into its current format.External links
