KoreaMiss International 2009, the 49th Miss International pageant, was held at the Sichuan International Tennis Center, Chengdu, Sichuan, China on November 28, 2009.[2] The pageant was originally scheduled to be held at The Venetian Macao in Macau on November 7, 2009, but the host committee backed out.[3] 66 contestants competed for the coveted title. Alejandra Andreu of Spain crowned Anagabriela Espinoza of Mexico as the new titleholder.

NOTE - The male host who spoke in Chinese announced Moldova won both two awards, but the female host mistaken announced "No. 40 to No. 14" twice in English. Cuba (No.14) mistaken awarded as Miss Philanthropy, when Moldova (No. 40) only awarded as Miss Internet Beauty at the telecast.
Historical significance
- Mexico won its second crown in just 2 years since Priscilla Perales won Miss International 2007.
- Korea finished as 1st runner-up and won Miss Photogenic since it did in 2000.
- United Kingdom finished its highest (2nd runner-up) in the pageant history.
- Japan placed for the 17th consecutive times.
- Venezuela placed for the 5th consecutive time tying the record of The Philippines (1994, 1995, 1996, 1997 & 1998).
- Spain placed for the 4th consecutive times.
- Japan, Philippines, Spain and Venezuela also placed last year.
- Cuba participated and placed for the first time.
- Belarus, Korea and Mexico last placed in 2007.
- Dominican Republic and Panama last placed in 2006.
- Brazil and Finland last placed in 2005.
- United Kingdom last placed in 2004.
- Canada last placed in 2000.
- Belgium last placed in 1993.
- China won its first ever Miss Friendship award.
- Korea won its 4th Miss Photogenic award.
- Honduras won its first ever Best National Costume award.
The finals
During the 3 hours live telecast on CDTV-2, the contestants showed their national costume, swimsuit, evening gown and the Chinese traditional Qipao. After interviewed with Top 15 finalists, the contestants performed a Chinese song "I Love This City" together. The 5 special awards presented first, followed by the 2 runners-up and the winner of the 49th annual Miss International Beauty Pageant.
Number of contestants
According to the official website, 73 contestants were expected to attend the pageant, but only 65 contestants showed up to compete for the coveted title.
Contestants from Italy and Suriname withdrew before the pageant started. While, contestants from Guam, Guatemala, Kenya, Sudan, Ukraine withdrew 10 days after the pageant started, only 66 contestants continued at the competition. A day before the grand final, Costa Rica and Nigeria confirmed not arrived at Chengdu, China due both of them had visa problems, marking the number of contestants decreased to 64. Sudan finally arrived at Chengdu to attend the preliminary judging, rehearsals and the grand final with others contestants. The number of contestants finally increased to 65.[5]
