There are eight union councils in Shahdara.

Etymology
The meaning of Shahdara in Urdu is the "door of kings". It is made up of two Persian words, which found their way to Urdu also, Shah (Kings) and dara (door or entrance).
Overview
In 18th century when Paharganj was the principal grain market of the city in the 18th century, grain was ferried to it, across Yamuna river, from wholesale markets and warehouses in Patparganj and Shahdara.[1]
Shahdara is today an eastern suburb of Delhi. Sometimes people call the whole trans-Yamuna region as Shahdara.Shahdara is a part of both East and Northeast Delhi. Shahdara has two MCD’s (Municipal council of Delhi) zones. North and South Shahdara are the main wards.The second oldest market in Delhi next only to Chandni Chowk at the 16th century. Old name of Shahdara is Chandrawali village.It is the first station on the line 1 of Delhi Metro.Delhi Metro Starts from Shahdara, there are Lot of Places to Visit in Shahdara Sai Mandir, Cross River Mall, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akshardham_(Delhi) Etc. Shahdara is Famous for Hera Sweets the main shop of Heera sweets situated in Shahdara. Heera sweets is famous for its Balushahi(Indian Sweets). There are Lot of other things like Annapurna Chat Corner is Very Famous. Shahdara Market is One of the Very Popular markets in Delhi.

Shalimar Park
One of the Up-scale colonies in Shahdara surrounded by adjacent colonies like Azad Nagar, Krishna Nagar, Behari Colony, Bholanath Nagar etc. There is a Jain Cooperative Bank along with a private school i.e. Children Welfare Public School. Nearest Metro Station to reach Shalimar Park is Welcome Station.
Navin shahdara area ===Subhash Park and Subhash Park Extn, Panchsheel Garden, Mohan Park=== Subhash Park is the most preferred area for the Shahdara Location, due to a junction area comes to the different directions and the conveyance facilities to all of the direction. You can reached Shahdara Metro Station, Welcome Metro Station, Babarpur Bus Terminus, Seelampur, Zafrabad, Loni Road, Shahdara Railways and Bus Stations by walking of 1 to 1.5 Kms only.
Now an underpass has also built to join the outer Mudrika Areas and A ways of Delhi Metro Karkarduma to Yamuna Vihar also purposed in the 4th phase.

Kardam Puri
This is the most populated area of Mohamdan in north-east delhi. Most of the people in this area are Lower Middle Class Family. Karam Puri is Situated Near by Jyoti Nagar.
Jyoti Nagar
Jyoti Nagar is one of the posh areas of Delhi, consisting of upper and middle class residents. Old name of jyoti nagar was sikdarpur village It is situated 2.5 km from Shahdara Metro Station on both sides of the Delhi-Saharanpur main highway, also called Loni Road. The Central Park was many sites such as the Jyoteshwar Mahadev Temple worshipping Lord Shiva, the inn Agrasen Dharamshala ,Chotta Shiva temple, Durga Temple etc. The Central Park is famous for their Shivaratri, Navratri, Dashera & Janamashtami celebrations. Govt. Primary School and Senior Secondary School are some important schools in this area. This area is green colony and there are many parks in this colony specially in west jyoti nagar opposite to the sr. secondary school.it is situated 1 km from guru teg bahaudur hospital which is very famous hospital of delhi.one of the busy chowk called durgapuri chowk is next to the jyoti nagar.
Chhota Bazaar
The Chhota Bazaar is one of the largest markets of Shahdara. The clothes are available in all varieties, prices, colours, etc. It attracts shoppers from all around the Delhi. Shahdara Railway Station & Shahdara Metro Station are both beside the Chota bazaar making it a very convenient destination for shoppers. Near to this, if one want to roam around then can go to one of the most oldest places of Shahdara which is called "Teliwara" meaning "A place where people who collect mustard oil, assemble's and meet".One of the oldest temple of the area "Hanuman Mandir" was establoshed here almost 300 years back, a place of religious assembly for the people living in places near as Jwala Nagar, Mukesh Nagar, Church Road, Vishwas Nagar and many more. Also , there lies another one of the most oldest place named "Anaj Mandi" or "Grain market". Every Tuesday and Saturday it becomes a holy place for devotee's of god "Hanuman". Teliwara is also famous for sweet shops of "Balushahi", "Jalebi" and many more, made in "Desi Ghee".the main item pooja goods is very very big varaites pooja,hawan goods,temple goods,the main markit is pooja goods and the big pooja goods shop is r.k.gupta.general sore,and ankur poshak wala the main shopis puja articls,in chhota bazar shahdara
Bhola Nath Nagar
The Bhola Nath Nagar is one of the oldest colonies in Shahdara. There are renowned schools located in the area like Baburam School, Handa's school, Bloom Public School, International School, Children Welfare Public School etc. The area has a famous temple known as Jharkhandi Temple.
Rohtash Nagar
It's one of the oldest area of Shahdara. This place is famous for heir market. Many branded shops like Cantabil, Kouton, Peter England etc are there. One of the famous lassi shop shyam lassi wala is also there and a sweets shops is also there called HIRA Sweets.The old shop for milk called Dabur Brothers major dealer of doodh is also here. This area has a very big market. Mostly people from Tarns Yamuna like to do shopping from there.It's not easy to buy market due to high property rates. It's one of the best are to live in Delhi.
Balbir Nagar
Most of the residents are businessmen and upper middle class people.Its known for the Jain Temple Sanatan Dhram-shala and renounced manufacturing units like 'ROYAL ENTERPRISES' who manf. different machinery and its parts.
Shivaji Park
Little Flowers Public School, one of the most famous schools in East Delhi, is located in Shivaji Park.There is other Popular Places also Like Tayal Food Plaza, Paul Studio and Happy juice Corner Etc.
Gorakh Park
Most of the residents are businessmen and upper middle class people. Kashi Ram Dudh Wala and Amba Store are famous in Gorakh Park and the main Hanuman Road. Popular Technology Blog Geeks Track's Group Members Lives in Gorakh Park. The Famous Mr. Jitendra Tiwari also stays there. Mr. Tiwari is well known for social works and as a political leader.
Ashok Nagar
One of the largest colonies in the Shahdara region. It has five blocks and the best place to live in is the "A" Block. It has a big Wheat market. Land rates in Ashok Nagar are rising like anything.
Ram Nagar Extn.
Ram Nagar is one of the main residential colonies in shahdara zone. The main mandoli road across the ram nagar is a wonderful market for daily goods and domestic items. The "RATHI MILL" AND "PRAKASH METALS" both are the manufecturing houses which has been estblished before getting india independence in Ram Nagar.
Kabool Nagar
It is near to metro station. It was an industrial area in olden times, now this is a registered Residential colony. It is divided in two parts Double Storey Quarters and other residential areas. Double Storey quarters are well maintained and constructed. Mainly High class, Middle High Class and Lower Middle class people are living in Kabool Nagar area.All parks in this area are well maintained by the help of MCD and Local people. It's one of the safest zone of Shahdara. This area is very near to Rohtash Nagar market and Sai Baba Mandir. Most of the people are well educated and well settled in this area.This area is famous for the weekly market called Shukkar Bazaar, Jain Mandir and Sai Baba Mandir. Most families in these are Punjabi and Jain. There are many small welfare association in area, those are continuously working for the welfare of society and people. This place is very near to Metro Station, Railway Station and DTC Bus Stand.
Bhikam Singh Colony
Its a part of vishwas nagar ward no. 226 which has 64 gali, new sanjay amar coloney kasturba nagar, new vishwas nagar, shivam enclave, lahri coloney, anupam appartment also is the part of vishwas nagar. vishwas nagar has about 45000 voters in it. its a part of vishwas nagar constituency. One of the largest colonies in the Shahdara region.It is connected by the famous 60 feet road.
Babar pur
It is also a very old colony of Shahdara and is an old urbanised village. The area mainly consists of middle and upper midddle class and having good living amenities. It is very well connected with other parts of the city and has famous 100 feet road where you can find all leading automobile showrooms and furniture showrooms. It has a karol Bagh like automobile market. Mansarovar Park itself is subparted in two areas-DDA Flats and the simple one.As name suggests DDA Flats,Mansarovar Park is a colony designed by [Delhi Development Authority] while the rest is an unauthorized land or colony.
