Safdarjüng Airport Airport codes|N/A|VIDD is an airport in New Delhi, India, in the neighbourhood of the same name. It is home to the Delhi Flying Club. It used to be known as Willingdon Airfield and served as Delhi's main airport before the construction of the Indira Gandhi International Airport. It is still used for general aviation purposes and small propeller planes take off and land from the airport. However, planes are cautioned when landing, since the airport is situated right next to a flyover highway. Indira Gandhi International Airport is the airport serving New Delhi; a much larger airport with multiple runways and over sixty domestic and international carriers serving it.

Trivia

In the Tintin series, in 'Tintin in Tibet', when Tintin has a stop-over in India, he departs from Willingdon Airfield (now Safdarjung Airport), as is borne out by the text. However, the picture showing his arrival seems to accurately depict the terminal in a panel, despite the text referring to Willingdon as the 'other' airport, "i.e.", different from the one he had arrived at.
