Vasant Kunj is an upscale residential colony located in
South West Delhi district ofDelhi ,India , which today has well over 100,000 residents. It is divided into 4 large sectors A, B, C and D - each of which in turn is divided into several different pockets (ie. 1, 2,3,4,5,6,and 7).Its contruction started in late 1980's by
Delhi Development Authority (DDA), with Sector A, being the oldest sector of Vasant kunj has pockets named as Pocket A,B and C. Rest of the sectors in Vasant kunj have pockets named in numeric value. One extreme of Vasant Kunj (Sector A Pocket C/ Sector D Pocket 1) is around 3 km fromQutub Minar /Mehrauli . The other extreme (Sector C Pocket 8) is approximately 5 km from theIndira Gandhi International Airport .Munirka is about 3 km from Sector B Pocket 1, which marks (approximately) the mid-point of Vasant Kunj along the arterial road.Commercial area
The current commercial hub of Vasant Kunj is the adjoining Masoodpur village, though this is expected to change after the many malls announced in the area are completed. These malls along with the malls in Saket are expected to be the biggest shopping hubs in
Delhi . These malls will include theEmporio Mall , which will be the most expensive mall in the country. These malls will have a huge impact on rocketing real estate prices.There is an automotive market near the Sector A.

The octagonal tomb of
Nasir ud din Mahmud , son of Mamluk dynasty ruler,Iltutmish is also situated in the area, just beyond the "Spinal Injuries Hospital", across the C- Block, Vasant Kunj. The tomb built byIltutmish in1231 , after his son's death in1229 .The fortified structure, which surrounds the tomb and the inner chamber (crypt) of the tomb itself, are one of finest examples of Mamluk dynasty architecture, which also include the
Qutub Minar inMehrauli .Education

Lately many hospitals have come up in the locality, the latest being the Fortis Hospital adjoinining Sector B1. An Apollo Clinic is located in the B11 Shopping Complex. And there is also the super speciality Indian Spinal Injuries Centre.
Miscellaneous
For a while in
1999 and2000 , it become known as "Murder Kunj" for the high number of murders that occurred there. This was in spite of the fact that most of Vasant Kunj consists of secure, gated communities. Now the security in Vasant Kunj is fairly good.Vasant Kunj is preferred residence area for many famous retired Cricket Players.
The latest controversy is about the upcoming malls on Nelson Mandela Road. The Supreme Court stayed the construction of the malls in May 2006 as they did not have the necessary clearance from the Ministry of Environment.
Water shortage was an acute problem in many sectors of Vasant Kunj. However, this has been largely resolved once the Sonia Vihar water supply was regularised.
Flight lieutenant Rajan Dhal Fortis Hospital has now been opened there but has no real emergency services.
It also has Fabindia's headquarters at B 11 market. The Commercial Plaza in C-2 has good eating joints and discotheque. Aruna Asaf Ali Road too boasts of a variety of eating Joints including the Famous Karim's & Sheng Villa. Masoodpur has good number of tailors and mobile stores. It is also the resident of famous Srijan Jha (?).
