It is an autonomous institution of the Government of NCT of Delhi. It formally comes under the purview of Faculty of Technology, University of Delhi and is the only engineering college under the University.
Until 2009, NSIT shared its admission procedure and syllabus for B.E courses with Delhi College of Engineering, both of which were prescribed by the Faculty of Technology, University of Delhi. But with the conversion of Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) into Delhi Technological University (DTU), NSIT has become the only engineering college (technical institute) of the University of Delhi.
NSIT has continuously been featuring in lists of the top 10 engineering colleges of India by engineering education surveys conducted by bodies such as India Today, Outlook, Dataquest-NASSCOM etc.[1][1][2][3]

Campus
The NSIT campus is located in Dwarka, in South West Delhi. The Delhi government has proposed a Science and Technology Park (STP) at Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (NSIT) with the key objective being to 'establish Delhi as the hub of the knowledge industry'.

- Ranked 9th best engineering college in India for "Factual Rank" by The India Today-Nielsen Survey in 2010.[5]
- Ranked 11th best engineering college in India by Dataquest -IDC T-School Survey in 2010. In the placement wise ranking of the survey NSIT stood at 4th place.NSIT was placed at 3rd place in North Zone of India in the Zone Wise Ranking (Excluding IITs)of the survey.[6]
- Ranked 2nd best among the top 10 engineering college for "Return on Investment" and 7th best among top 10 engineering college for "Personality Devt & Ind Interface" in India by the Outlook Magazine in 2010.[7]
- Ranked 15th best engineering college in India by CollegeKhabar in their Engineering College Ranking Survey 2010 [Best Engineering Colleges- Overall (National Ranking 2010)]. In the survey CollegeKhabar reported that NSIT stood at 14th place by votes from various students, alumni, faculties.[2].[8]
- Ranked 15th best engineering college in India by The India Today-Nielsen Survey in 2010.[5][9]

- Ranked 5th among North India Engineering Colleges by EFY Report titled "RECRUITERS' CHOICE 2009-10: ELECTRONICS ENGINEERING COLLEGES PAR EXCELLENCE". (Reference:- Electronics For You (EFY) Magazine, May 2010 Issue, Vol.42 No.5, Pages 42–48).[11][12][13]
- Ranked 6th best among the top engineering college for "Highest Salaries" and 9th best among top engineering college for "Return On Investment" in India by the Outlook Magazine in 2009.[14]
- Ranked 5th in the national level CSR-GHRDC Engineering College Survey 2009. The survey placed NSIT among the list of "Engineering Colleges of Super Excellence".[15][16]
- 72 out of top 100 students who sought admission in CEE 2009 chose NSIT over DCE (Now DTU).[17]
- Ranked 18th best engineering college in India by The India Today-Nielsen Survey in 2009.[18][19]
- Ranked 11th best engineering college among the list of "TOP 50 GOVERNMENT ENGINEERING COLLEGES" in India by LiveMint in 2009. The survey also placed NSIT at 7th position in terms of "PLACED (%age)" and 5th in terms of "AVERAGE SALARY" among the list of "PLACEMENT DETAILS OF SOME TOP ENGINEERING COLLEGES : 2009" including private engineering colleges.[20][21][22]
