Netaji Bhawan

Netaji Bhawan

Netaji Bhawan or Netaji Bhavan (Netaji's Residence) is a memorial hall of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose in Kolkata, owned and managed by Netaji Research Bureau. It includes museum, archives and library.

This is the ancestral house of Subhas Chandra Bose, and he had lived and put under house arrest at this house till his escape to Berlin in 1941. After that, he moved to Japan-occupied Southeast Asia by submarines (German U-boat U-180 and Japanese submarine I-29), organized Indian National Army, and fought against British Raj with Imperial Japanese Army. Those relics of his footprints are also exhibited at this museum.

This hall is located at Lala Lajpat Rai Sarani (earlier known as Elgin Road), nearby Rabindra Sadan station or Netaji Bhavan station of Kolkata Metro.

After Second World War, Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru visited to Netaji Bhawan. Recently, in 2007, prime minister of Japan Shinzō Abe visited, too.
