History of MIT

Bishnupur is in the District of Bankura, West Bengal, happened to be the capital of erstwhile Mallabhum which had a glorious past .It still possesses a relics of the past through its terracotta carved out in a variety of designs which reflect the intellectual and cultural ambience of Bishnupur. The whole country has still the nostalgia about the Bishnupur Gharana of music. In brief, artistic designs, cultural sensitivity , indigenous craftsmanship and the vibrant music, all taken together form the moorings of Bishnupur. This has enabled Bishnupur to move forward in keeping with of the trends of the day. Some of these ongoing trends are communication, information, production etc. which are emerging facets of technology with a global tenor .Bishnupur can afford to absorb them, because of its strength in heritage and architecture and human resource. The term ‘Technology’, being essentially generic through out the world acquires a new rationale in the context of Bishnupur ; hence the motivation for the foundation of Mallabhum Institute of Technology envisaged by new engineers, doctors, professors and leading figures of the community around Bishnupur. As a part of conviction, they hope that the inception of Mallabhum Institute of Technology would keep on acquiring newer and newer dimensions in terms of global trends without being oblivious of the aspirations and realities of the community around.

The duration of all the above programs are four years. The syllabus and curriculum is structured by W.B.U.T.

Admission procedure

Admission to the courses happens on an annual basis. The number of seats allotted is based on the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination(85% of the total intake)conducted by the Central Selection Committee Engineering and Technology. Qualified candidates are taken through AIEEE/CET (state conducted test/university tests)/Association conducted test separately.Through AIEEE entrance(15% of the total intake).

How to reach

Location of the College

The College is situated almost at the heart of all major industrial urban complex of South West Bengal. Exact location is at Braja Radha Nagar 3 km away from Bishnupur Town, in the district of Bankura.

Modes of Communication

  • Nearest Airport : Netaji Subhas International Airport , Kolkata.
  • Nearest Railway Station : Bishnupur , 6 km away from the campus
  • Railway Connections : Bishnupur Railway Station is well connected with various places of the West and the rest of INDIA. Express and mail trains do ply between Kolkata and Bishnupur on a regular basis. The Rupashi Bangla Express, Aranyak Express and the Purulia Express are the most convenient trains to reach Bishnupur from Kolkata; these trains come via Kharagpur(Midnapur) and take approx 3:30 to 4:15 hours to reach Bishnupur from Kolkata.

Kharagpur 78 km, Durgapur 65 km, Burdwan 90 km, Arambag 52 km, Bankura 39 km, Purulia 90 km, Midnapore 70 km, IIT [KGP] 80 km, Asansol 125 km. Bus services from Kolkata every 1/2 an hour interval from 5 am to 4 pm and up to 10 pm. Frequent services available from Kolkata connecting Bishnupur, Bankura, Durgapur, Santaldih, Purulia, Jhalda, Tulin, Barasat, Barrackpore, Burdwan, Haldia, Digha, Jhargram, Chinsurah, Malda, Suri, Baharampur, Asansol, etc.

How to reach the Campus

Convenient way to reach the Campus is to get down from the bus at the MIT College Stop and avail rickshaw to reach MIT Campus [ 1 km only]. Institute Bus service is available from campus to Railway station via bus stand, four times a day. Regular buses, cars, autos, trekkers & rickshaws are available from Railway Station & bus stand.

Hostel campus

Separate accommodations are available for men, women, and the faculty. Each Hostel has its own dining hall. Delicious & Hygienic food is served in the canteen. Indoor Games, Separate Gymnasium, and other recreation including TV facilities are being provided. There are four Boys Halls of Residence to provide accommodation for nearly 1300 students at the residential campus of the Institute. The ladies Hostels accommodates nearly 300 ladies and the Teachers' hostel accommodates almost all the faculties and Laboratory Assistants.
