About the Organization
The Organization called Mallabpur Peoples’ Rural Development Society started functioning in the year 1990 with a band of young men and women who were school teachers, paramedics, a fiery band of dedicated social workers of the locality.
It started working in the area under Magrahat Block-II of South 24 Parganas District in West Bengal. As part of its urban programs, the organization is also carrying out community based work in slums of Kidderpore Gardenrich Howrah urban areas with direct involvement of local communities.
The Organization was registered on 28-12-1994; vide no – S/78736. After a few years it got registration FCRA in 1999 from the Central Government.
The Society operates from its own building at Magrahat Block – II of Urelchandpur village built in a free hold land, consisting of rooms and other facilities as detailed her, Communication – Nearest Railway station is Magrahat (Seadldah South Section) 7 km away from the Project Head Office. Banking transactions of the organization are done through State Bank of India (Magrahat Branch), United Bank of India (Magrahat Branch) and Axis Bank of Baruipur Branch.

- To enable and capacitate the poor and marginalized section of people or communities for achieving a dignified qualitative life.
Mallabpur People Rural Development Society believes on the inherent strength of communities to initiate, manage and sustain context specific prioritization in development process. The organization will facilitate the process by technical and other required support necessary to get the desired result.
Objective
The main objective of the society is to form and facilitate activities of self-helped groups that mainly comprise women from poor and deprived backgrounds, mostly from schedule caste, minority communities and other backward classes. Its primary motivation is to enable these women to become self-sufficient in social and economic terms, albeit with organizations’ modest capacity.
Activities
Agriculture
- To increase the agriculture production.
- To aware farmers for using the optimum level of soil, water and manure production.
- To organize agriculture training programs.
Education
- To spread adult literacy in it area of operation.
- To reduce the incidence of dropout among students and to increase their ‘school life expectancy’.
- To run a textbook library for encouraging reading habits among young scholars as well as to support students from depressed backgrounds.
- To provide computer literacy and training to students from marginalized sections of society.
Health
- To develop an attitude of health care among the community through a focus on preventive aspects of health care.
- To reduce the burden of diseases that affect local people through curative interventions in a clinic run by the local adolescents.
Sports & Culture
- To inspire and energize the youth by providing them with sports materials for in-door and out-door games.
- To nurture a climate of peaceful interactions and mutual understanding among various social groups in the locality.
- To find out the potential and talents of the resident youths.
SHG & IGS
- To enable members of self-help groups (SHG) to become economically independent through various income generating schemes (IGS).
- To develop among them an attitude of savings in their life cycle practices.
- To develop a spirit of group sensitivity.
- To develop their skills for various income earning activities.
Training & Orientation
- To organize meetings and orientation programs in various sectors including health, agriculture, legal matters, pollution control and environment, women and child development, disaster management and building up of issue-based Community Based Organizations (CBO).
Achievements
Agriculture
- Organized 4.numbers – 48 farmers groups in the villages.
- Conducted agriculture training programs for the farmers in support of Agriculture Department of Block Development Office; Magrahat Block II.
- Organized village meeting with farmers groups, regarding the agricultural issues.
Education
- Eight Adult Education Centres are currently in operation with 160 learners.
- Two Non Formal Education (NFE) centres are in operation covering 80 learners.
- One library providing facilities to students from unprivileged backgrounds is functioning under the aegis of the Organization.
Health
- HEALTH CLINIC RUN BY LOCAL YOUTH – a report is available. On an average twenty Health awareness programs are conducted per month by the Organization, which involve nearly 400 people. These activities also include HIV/AIDS and RCH Program.
- Two clinics cover 200 patients per month.
Sports & Culture
- Annual sports are organized yearly and Annual cultural function is also held for the rural and urban children.
SHG & IGS
- Formation of SHGs in 1990 – a total of 324 groups, involving 4787 women.
- Projected savings per year achieved…
- 20 SHGs consisting of 200 women have been working in knitting and making jute products, soft-toys and embroidery work.
Training & Orientation
- One training program on pisiculture has been held.
- Once a year a seminar is organized on community based programs which are attended by distinguished personalities in various fields.
