Sri Venkateswara College is one of the premier colleges of University of Delhi, India. The College is considered to be one of the leading educational institutions in the countryFact|date=May 2007.

History & Evolution

Founded under the auspices of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Trust, the primary objective of the College was to cater to the educational needs of students from South India. The foundation stone of the College building was laid on 20th August 1961, by Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, former President of India.The College began functioning modestly in 1961 in a school building of the Andhra Education Society at Rouse Avenue, New Delhi, with 271 students and 13 Faculty members. It moved into its own spacious buildings located at Dhaula Kuan, New Delhi on 25th August, 1969.

The initial objective to start a college at Delhi by the TTD was to cater to the educational needs of students hailing from the Southern States of India. The College commenced with B.A. courses in Telugu and Tamil, besides Hindi and Sanskrit as the subjects in Modern Indian Languages.

The institution soon outgrew its regional character and has now become one of the most sought after co-educational colleges of India.

Achievements

In 2004, Sri Venkateswara College was recognized by the University Grants Commission(UGC) as the "College with Potential for Excellence"Fact|date=May 2007. Only 47 colleges in the country and two in Delhi University have been identified by UGC for this award.

In the year 2005, UGC and NASSCOM jointly identified the College as one of the four pilot centers to set-up Techno Business Skill Development (TSD) projects in the country. This selection was based on the inputs from the Industry representatives and several other factors including comfort level of the IT industry partners. The College has already taken initiatives to identify the areas of collaboration between the Industry and the College.

ocieties and extra curricular activities

The college is very well renowned for its various extra curricular societies- ALAAP(Indian Music Society), CRESCENDO (western music society),Indian dance ,choreography society,debating society. The college has one of the best Dramatics societies -Hindi(ANUBHUTI) and English(VERBUM).
