Mayur Vihar Phase II

Mayur Vihar Phase-II is a DDA colony situated in East Delhi adjacent to East Vinod Nagar, Sanjay Jheel Park and Kalyan Vas Janta Flats. It was set up in 1984. One characteristic of flats in this area is that each is planned to face a park or green belt. While driving on NH-24 from Nizam-Ud-Din bridge towards UP, there is a right turn exactly after 5.5 km from ring road for the road going to Phase-II.

Sanjay Jheel Park increases the aesthetic sense of this complex. The whole area is divided into pockets alphabetically named A, B, C, D, E and F. There are DDA markets in Pockets C, A and E. Also, alongside Pocket B is the Local Shopping Complex. Residents have easy access to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, Bimla Devi Hospital, Nursing Homes, Clinics, Diagnostic Labs, and Chemist shops. Many schools of Delhi operate buses so that students from here can be picked up. Bal Bhavan Public School in Pocket-B and Neelam Mata Temple constitute the landmarks of Mayur Vihar, Phase-II. Also, there are Muslim graveyard, Masjid and Gurudwara for the residents. All Pockets have their own Resident Welfare Association (RWA) which work for the development and upkeep of their area for residents.

Some prominent schools are Bal Bhavan Public School, MCD Senior Secondary School, and Government Sarvodaya Senior Secondary School. (Mayur Vihar Phase-II has many more primary schools.) It is one of richest and posh colonies. Many affluent people live here.The place has acquired a cosmopolitan character over the years. It has a sizeable population of Hindus, Ravidassias, South Indians, like Tamilians, Malayalees, Kannadigas, and Telugus, and also others such as Oriyas and Bengalis, in addition to the staple Punjabi population of several Delhi colonies. Because of this cosmopolitan mix, it has places of worship for all communities. There is a Karunya Mahaganapathi Temple which is visited by South Indians from all over Delhi and is highly popular. It hosts Carnatic Classical concerts throughout the year. Over the last few years, the real estate value of properties in Mayur Vihar Phase II has more than tripled and it is considered one of the best localities in Delhi, considering its proximity to the city centre, safety and security, attitude of the residents, abundant parks (over 30 in number in addition to the Sanjay Lake Park), cosmopolitan character, and connectivity. The region of east Delhi is getting very much benefitted from dovelopments during ComonWealth Games and also the highway NH24 leading to Mayur Vihar has been converted to 8 Lanes, but there is a lot of requirement of development of Public Transport. There are very few bueses through Mayur Vihar-II and that too to very selected destinations. There are no buses going to Noida, Ghaziabad, Indirapuram, Mayur Vihar-I and III. Finding a bus to CP, Karol Bagh, Lajpat Nagar, Delhi University, ISBTs, Railway stations is equally difficult even with East Vinod Nagar DTC Bus Depot. The Metro has already bypassed Mayur Vihar-II.

On the East of Mayur Vihar Phase-II, there are lot of slums next to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, and other neighbouring localities like Trilok Puri and Kalayan Puri continue to be a nightmare in this area. There are several government schools also in the vicinity which have been badly ignored and there condition is pathetic. The buildings are messed and students keep roaming here and there doing nasty things in the area.The MCD seems to have taken care of the parks however there is still lot to do about the sewage and drainage system. Parking is coming out to be a new problem in this area. In Pocket-A, C and F, residents have illegally put grills on the footpath and parking ground leading to lack of useful parking place.

Approximate Distances: CP:12 km, Noida 7 km, Maharani Bagh: 9 km, Laxmi Nagar: 5 km, New Delhi Railway Station: 12 km, Old Delhi Railway Station: 12 km, Nizam-Ud-Din Railway Station and Sarai Kale Khan Bus Terminal: 7 km, Maharana Pratap ISBT: 12 km, Anand Vihar ISBT and Railway Station: 7 km, Airport: 35 km.

Many good things has been done by Mr.Devender Kumar (Area Councillor)like the library has been made of the residents of Mayur Vihar Phase II,in all the pockets the foot path is going to made with colour full tiles which has been done in pocket B and soon going to start in pocket C and in all the pockets also and the sewage problem is going to solve very soon he said. Also there is a major parking problem at pocket a and c as people at ground floor have illegally occupied extra space which has resulted in chaos in parking and made people living in the area lives miserable.

Mayur Vihar-3 can be accessed by three main entrances. One of the main entrances is via the NOIDA mod which is also called as NEW Kondli mod. It provides access to both NOIDA as well as Delhi, towards Vasundhara Enclave. The second one connects Mayur Vihar-3 via Kondli-Gharoli dairy farm towards Kalyan Puri. The third one is via Sector 11 Noida which connects Noida Sector-12/22 with Mayur Vihar-3. It can also be reached via the barren land lying between Ghazipur and the proposed paper mart site.

The main bus stand of Mayur Vihar-3 is located near Ryan International School. It is well connected by buses to other parts of Delhi It is home to a large population of south Indians particularly Keralaites. It also boasts of its residential diversity in numerous Punjabis, Garhwalis, Biharis, etc settled here.

Mayur Vihar-3 has a central market located near A-2 (LIG Flats) in GD Colony.

Other newly opened banks in the area are: Punjab National Bank, State Bank of India, DCB and HDFC Bank. The Phase-3 Market is one stop shop for everyday household items as well as clothes and accessories etc.

A proposed paper mart has been in construction lately and it is said that Mayur Vihar-3 will be connected in coming days to Ghaziabad as well.

The place is known for its grand celebrations (mostly South Indian in nature) throughout the year.

One characteristic of Mayur Vihar-3 is that it boasts of some of the good schools in Delhi (Ryan International, St. Mary's Senior Secondary School, Salwan Public School, Andrews Scott and Kerala School are few of them). Availability of a number of schools within the residential pockets makes it an attractive area for the middle class. The ambiance and the surrounding areas of Mayur Vihar-3 needs a lot more attention.

Places of religious interests in the area include:

-Hanuman Mandir in GD Colony, Shiv Mandir in GD Colony, Sai Baba Mandir in A-2 Pocket which has many good people like prashant abhishek kanika pooja vivek etc .... , Ishta Siddhi Vinayaka Temple for Tamil people in Pocket A-2, Kali Bari temples in Pocket A-1 and A-2 for Bengalis, Church of Assumption Syro-Malabar Catholic Church ( For Keralites) - 154-B Pocket A-2, St James Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church (For Kerlaites) Pocket A-1, St Mary's Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church (For Keralites) Pocket A-1, St Stephens Marthoma Church (For Keralites) Pocket A2, Mother of Perpetual Succour Latin Catholic Church, St. George's Malankara Catholic Church (For Keralites), Gurdwara Guru Singh Sabha Pocket A-2, Jain Temple in Janta Flats, Masjid in GD Colony.

Because of the multi-lingual composition of the population, this colony wears, to some extent, a semblance of metropolitan accommodation of difference of tongues which is uncharacteristic of Delhi, practically a monolingual city.

References

The surrounding areas of Noida, Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Khoda colony make this area very unsafe for the residents. Chain snatching, Heaps of garbage dumps and broken roads, illegal parking of private vehicles on road are very nucence to this area. The apathy of the people coming particularly of middle and upper middle class makes the jobs of Govt agencies like MCD, DTP and other easy with no one to question them. coord missing|Delhi}}
