Its administrative centre is Spodnji Duplek. The municipality lies on the left bank of the river Drava on the northwestern edge of the Slovenske gorice hills, about 10 kilometres southeast of Maribor. The area was part of the traditional region of Lower Styria. It is now included in the Drava statistical region.[2]
