Cerknica (Italian: Circonio, German: Zirknitz) is a town and municipality in the Kras region of southwestern Slovenia, with a population of 10,284 (2002 Census). It belongs to the traditional region of Inner Carniola.[2]
Its best known landmark is Lake Cerknica, an intermittent lake, the largest lake in Slovenia, close to the town of Cerknica. Various watersports including windsurfing are popular on the lake.
