It lies in the Slovenske Gorice hills in the region known as Prlekija. Traditionally the area was part of Lower Styria. The municipality is now included in the Drava statistical region.[2]
The local parish church is dedicated to Saint Anthony the Hermit and its the seat of the Sveti Anton v Slovenskih goricah parish. It belongs to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Maribor. It was built in 1546 on the site of an earlier building.[3]
