Traditionally the area was part of the Lower Styria region. The municipality is now included in the Savinja statistical region. The entire municipality has just over 1,000 inhabitants. Its administrative centre, Dobje pri Planini, has a population of 130. It has its own primary school and post office.[2]
The parish church in the settlement is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and belongs to the Roman Catholic Diocese of Celje. It is first mentioned in written documents dating ti 1545, but was extensively rebuilt in the 18th and 19th centuries.[3]
