Contai I (community development block) (Bengali: কাঁথি I সমষ্টি উন্নয়ন ব্লক) (also known as Kanthi I block) is an administrative division in Contai subdivision of Purba Medinipur district in the Indian state of West Bengal. Contai police station serves this block. Headquarters of this block is at Contai.^[1][2]

Geography

Dulalpur, a constituent panchayat of Contai I block, is located at 21°44′55″N 87°39′11″E / 21.7486581°N 87.6529598°E / 21.7486581; 87.6529598.

Contai I community development block has an area of 170.68  km².^[2]

Demographics

As per 2001 census, Contai I block had a total population of 150,999, out of which 77,331 were males and 73,668 were females. Contai I block registered a population growth of 10.30 per cent during the 1991-2001 decade. Decadal growth for the combined Midnapore district was 14.87 per cent.^[2]Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84 per cent.^[4]
