Mayureswar police station serves this block. Headquarters of this block is at Mallarpur.[1][2]

Geography
Mallarpur is located at 24°00′50″N 87°41′31″E / 24.014°N 87.692°E.
Mayureswar I community development block has an area of221.31 km2.[2]
Gram panchayats
Gram panchayats of Mayureswar I block/panchayat samiti are: Bajitpur, Baraturaigram, Dabuk, Dakshingram, Jhikadda, Kanachi, Mollarpur I, Mollarpur II and Talwan.[3]
Demographics
As per 2001 census, Mayureswar I block had a total population of 139,677, out of which 71,677 were males and 68,000 were females. Mayureswar I block registered a population growth of 19.80 per cent during the 1991-2001 decade. Decadal growth for Birbhum district was 17.88 per cent.[2]Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84 per cent.[4]
Scheduled castes at 48,803 formed around one-third the population. Scheduled tribes numbered 10,193.[5]
Literacy
As per 2001 census, Mayureswar I block had a total literacy of 65.37 per cent for the 6+ age group. While male literacy was 75.65 per cent female literacy was 54.54 per cent. Birbhum district had a total literacy of 61.48 per cent, male literacy being 70.89 per cent and female literacy being 51.55 per cent.[6]
Culture
Dabukeswar temple at Dabuk is the highest temple in Birbhum district. It was constructed in 1287 Bengali era.[7]
Poush Sankranti fair is held at Shibpur in the Mayureswar police station. Shivratri fair is held at Dabuk. Gosaidas fair is held at Dakshingram. Dharma pujo fair is held at Ratma on the occasion of Buddha Purnima.[7]
