The University of PetroleumWebsite http://www.upc.edu.cn/ The China University of Petroleum (simplified Chinese: 中国石油大学; traditional Chinese: 中國石油大學; pinyin: Zhōngguó Shíyóu Dàxué) is a university system (consisting of two universities) of the major universities under the jurisdiction of the central government, Ministry of Education. It is the top petroleum science and engineering focused university in the Chinese education system and a member of "Project 211" to raise the top 100 universities to higher standards of research and involvement in the socio-economic development of China.
Contents
History
The university, founded in 1953, was known as Beijing Petroleum Institute. It moved to Dongying, Shandong Province in 1969, with its name changed to East China Petroleum Institute. In 1988 it was renamed The University of Petroleum, consisting of one university in East China and one in Beijing. On January, 2005 its name changed to China University of Petroleum.
China University of Petroleum is an engineering university that specializes in oil and petrochemical industry subjects, in the overall level of domestic lead. Its five national key specialties are:

Campus
China University of Petroleum [6] is the main part of the UPC. It has campuses in Dongying, Beijing and Qingdao.
Location
The university covers an area of 3100 Chinese mu (about 200 hectares) with 650,000 m2 of floor space. The library has a collection of 3.2 million items.

The university has over 20,000 undergraduates, 3,300 postgraduates, 1497 teaching staff, including professors, associate professor of 683 people. The university has 54 specialties for undergraduate studies, and it is entitled to confer masters degrees in 99 programs and doctoral degrees in 32 programs. Under its administration there are 26 research centers including State Key Laboratory of Heavy Oil Processing.[9]
