Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (Chinese:上海财经大学;
Pinyin : Shànghǎi Cáijīng Dàxué), founded in 1917, is a national-level university inShanghai , China.Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SUFE), located in the municipal district of Yangpu, is a highly prestigious institute of higher learning with a history of over 90 years. SUFE's central aims are “"Seeking Truth and Contributing More to Mankind"” and maintaining its tradition of “Diligence, Precision, Practicality and Creativity”. With China’s economic expansion, the University is bustling with activity. The superior performance of SUFE graduates is witnessed in China and throughout the world, making SUFE a widely recognized source of outstanding economists and business managers. The University has a contingent of 700 high level faculty among whom there are over 300 professors and associate professors. Interdisciplinary collaboration is strongly encouraged and in recent years, the university has been proactive in recruiting new talent. The university has 3 campuses: The main campus, which is the undergraduate education hub, is in Guoding Road; the North Zhongshan Road campus is home to the MBA and EMBA programs and where international students are also based. The Wuchuan Road campus and science park, currently nearing construction, is a new education base for both undergraduate and graduate students. SUFE facilities and grounds are ideal for study, contemplation and exercise, with tree-lined avenues, athletic track, tennis courts, gymnasium and shopping. The University's total area is 339,781.62 m2.
The University has upheld the guiding principle "Scientific research is necessary for the evolution of academic disciplines that serve economic development"”. Many dynamic National-level and University-level research centers serve as important think-tanks. Among th–e most renowned of these are the Institute of Accounting and Finance, the Institute of Marxism, The Institute of World Expo Economics, the Modern Finance Research Center, the Center for Regional Economic Studies, the Institute of Shanghai School of Economics, the Center for Industrial Economic Studies, the Institute of Global Economics, the Institute of Asian Economic Studies, the Securities Research Center, and the Actuarial Research Center. The University's infrastructure has been kept modern with advanced teaching facilities. Examples of these are an advanced computer center, language labs, and world-class multimedia, internet-linked classrooms and lecture halls. There are cutting edge laboratories serving the fields of Finance, Economics, Electronic Commerce, Statistical Surveying, and Economics Journalism. SUFE internet-enabled computer networks also link administrative offices, academic departments, student dormitories, and classrooms. Student research materials are abundant. The University book collection is approaching 1 million volumes and is enhanced by an E-document search system, The university has embraced internationalization and regularly collaborates with such institutions as the World Bank's
Economic Development Institute (EDI), theInternational Monetary Fund (IMF), and theUnited Nations Development Program (UNDP) as well as more than 30 universities from other countries and regions such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Netherlands, Australia, Canada, Russia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. The University also works with international professional organizations such as the UK'sAssociation of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Canada'sCertified General Accountants (CGA), the USA'sLife Office Management Association (LOMA), the UK'sChartered Insurance Institute (CII) and theBritish Insurance Actuary Association (BIAA) to establish and operate professional testing and training centers. Actively developing inter-University exchanges and joint programs is a SUFE priority. The University has established long term cooperative and exchange relationships with 20 institutions of higher education in 10 countries. Since 2001 SUFE undergraduates have benefitted from the internationally recognised Joint Undergraduate Program, in which students spend up to one year study in overseas universities; including Europe (France, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, the UK) and USA. SUFE was one of the first universities approved by the Academic Degree Office of the State Council to offer joint Chinese / International MBA programs jointly withWebster University (USA) andSouthampton University (UK). The university has made remarkable achievements in promoting well-rounded education and in creating a refined and positive campus cultural atmosphere.
