Xinjiang Medical University (XMU) (Simplified Chinese: 新疆医科大学) is a university in Ürümqi, in Xinjiang, China. Located at the foot of “Carp Hill” in the northeast of the city, the Soviet funded university formerly called Xinjiang Medical College, commenced construction in 1954 and was completed in 1956. Over the last 60 years, XMU have received attention from many national and international leaders including the Chinese Communist Party and other provincial and urban leaders accross the China. Till now more 50,000 skilled medical personnals have been educated. Covering the 3 subjects of Medicine, Management and Linguistics, the university has 25 specialties for undergraduate students and 17 specialties for academic education. It is also recruiting international students under the administration of International Education College.

Structure & Compostion

Xinjiang Medical University have achieved tremendous achievments in the field of medicine. Presently, Xinjiang Medical University have 18 colleges, 5 affliated teaching hospitals, 3 post-doctorate training centres, 4 doctorate training centres, 48 master degree training centres of secondary disciplines, 5 autonomous region special subjects, 1 provinvial level laboratory, 2 autonomous regional laboratories, 8 autonomous regional research centres. Xinjiang Medical University is accredited to give Doctor of Medicine Degree (MD) after a 7 year course of study.

The Main Campus

The Main Campus is beautifully designed architecture having many buildings from the late Russian era in Xinjiang. Now it is a fully modernized university campus having library, canteens, hospitals and training centres. There are experimental laboratories with up-to-date bio-information collecting and processing systems, models and so forth; which guarantee and satisfy the teaching needs of international students and local students.

Library

On the main campus there is a fully modernized library covering 16000 m². Currently, there is a stock of more than 1.07 million books, 1300 differents periodicals and journals in Chinese and other languages. 6 different kinds of book-database have been introduced now. The database is also connected with HMI's library database.

International Education College

Xinjiang Medical University has became the largest foreign institution in Xinjiang responsible for recruiting and training international students for Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine. It came into establishment as an International Education College in 2004 in order to strengthen and administer foreign students education.
