The company originally started in Newark, New Jersey as an offshoot of the Clark Thread Company of Paisley, Scotland[6] and then expanded into these buildings in 1875. There are 35 buildings on the 13-acre (53,000 m2) block.[4]
The site is now used by a variety of industrial companies.
