The Lembeck and Betz Eagle Brewing Company was founded in
Jersey City ,New Jersey in 1869 byHenry B. Lembeck andJohn F. Betz . The brewery, bounded by 9th, 10th, Grove (Manila Avenue) and Henderson (Marin Boulevard) streets in downtown Jersey City, developed into one of the most famous, best-equipped and financially successful breweries on theEast Coast of the United States . In 1889, Lembeck started producinglager beer in addition to the traditionalpale ale they had been brewing. Since 1869, the brewery grew to become the fourth largest brewery in New Jersey.
