Otomycosis (also known as Singapore Ear) is a fungal ear infection,[1] a superficial mycotic infection of the outer ear canal. It is more common in the tropical countries. The infection may be either subacute or acute and is characterized by inflammation, pruritus, scaling, and severe discomfort. The mycosis results in inflammation, superficial epithelial exfoliation, masses of debris containing hyphae, suppuration, and pain.[2]

Clinical finding

The most characteristic finding on ear examination is the presence of greyish white thick debris known as "wet blotting paper". Most fungal ear infections are caused by Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans, but exceptions exist.[3]

Treatment

Otomycosis is treated with azole antifungals,[3] and symptomatically managed with oral antihistamines.[citation needed]
