MeshID =Gradenigo's syndrome is a complication ofotitis media andmastoiditis involving the apex of the petroustemporal bone . Gradenigo's syndrome is sometimes called petrous apicitis. It is asyndrome consisting of:
*otalgia due to pain in the area supplied by the ophthalmic branch of thetrigeminal nerve (fifth cranial nerve),
*ipsilateral paralysis of theabducens nerve (sixth cranial nerve), and
*otitis media.Other symptoms can includephotophobia , excessivelacrimation ,fever , and reduced corneal sensitivity.The syndrome is usually caused by the spread of aninfection into the petrous apex of thetemporal bone .The syndrome is named after Count
