It is situated north of the River Clyde, immediately west of Garthamlock and Easterhouse, east of Hogganfield. The local landmarks are two water towers, which are illuminated at night.
In the 1970s and 1980s Craigend was considered a high amenity area due to the large number of back and front door houses, compared to flatted buildings in the neighbouring areas of Ruchazie and Garthamlock. The building fabric of Craigend is now somewhat poorer than these areas which as they have been revigorated and rebuilt as part of the east end regeneration scheme.
Craigend has two schools, Sunnyside (which is non-denominational) and St Rose of Lima (Roman Catholic).
Craigend is also the home to the Craigend Cannibals. They are a team from the 2010 NFL Fantasy Season. They have moved the franchise from Ruchazie where they wereknown as the Roughnecks. Some of the natives of Craigend are unhappy at the move as Ruchazie are their main rivals. The team reached the semi-finals last year (after winning their division) before losing out to Alexandrs Meerkats and hope to go one better this team and get to the final.
Craigend is an area associated with high social deprivation. There is a high level of smoking, alcoholism and drug abuse in the area. The local housing authority has tried to mask this by 're-vamping' the area, at a large cost to many owners of flats.
