Grammy Awards History

Mariah Carey has got 34 nominations in the Grammy Awards, winning five gramophones; among female artists she is behind Aretha Franklin in the place 5th as the most nominated.[199] In the main categories, she is the second female artist with the most nominations for Album of the Year (after Barbra Streisand), but with no wins.[200] Mariah has also received 3 nominations for Record of the Year, she shares this 3 nods with Roberta Flack, Bette Midler and Celine Dion, where they are just behind Barbra Streisand with 4 noms (Beyoncé has 3 nominations in this category, too, but sometimes is counted 4 because of the song Say My Name with Destiny's Child),[201] other main category is Song of the Year with 2 nominations, Mariah shares this nods with just 3 female songwriters singers Shania Twain, Alicia Keys and Beyoncé, they are behind the songwriters Diane Warren and Carole Bayer Sager who have 3 noms. However, Mariah has not won in any main category, except for Best New Artist, causing discomfort among fans and critics, since it has been considered she had to have won in the ceremony of 1996 with her album Daydream[202], and The Emancipation of Mimi[203] in 2005 should have won more awards; in addition to this, she was completely ignored with her critically acclaimed, chart-topping E=MC2[204][205] and Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel[199], this without counting her ignored performances.
