This log cabin was built in 1805 by Zachariah and Elizabeth Dewitt and is the oldest extant structure in the Oxford Township of Butler County, Ohio. It is the only remaining home of the several built by pioneers along the Four-Mile Creek, just east of what is now the Miami University campus. Zachariah (1768-1851) and Elizabeth (1774-1843) were born in New Jersey and Pennsylvania respectively and came to Ohio from Kentucky and remained in the Oxford area as prominent citizens for the remainder of their lives. They are buried in the Darrtown, Ohio Pioneer Cemetery. The cabin and surrounding land is now owned by Miami University and is maintained by the Oxford Museum Association as a historic house museum. The cabin is on the north side of Ohio State Route 73 where it crosses Talawanda Creek. Park on the east side of Talawanda Creek and follow the lane across Harker's Run (Ohio) going about 1/4 mile north from the parking lot.
