The history of the Mathodas (also spelled as Mathauda) is largely unsure. Oral tradition suggests that the Mathodas are a Jatt people that traveled to India along with the armies of Alexander the Great of Macedonia. It is hypothesized[who?] that the name is also derived from "Macedon".
Mathoda's primarily hail from the Ropar district of the Indian Punjab. It is possible that they may reside in villages in Rajasthan as well.
