clan orgotra of Jats found inHaryana ,Uttar Pradesh andRajasthan inIndia .Origin
The Agra claims descent from
Hagamasha , asatrap ofMathura appointed by theKushan rulerKanishka . Hagamasha (also known as Hangamas) belonged to theTushara orKaswan dynasty and was appointed as the Governor ofMathura . His descendants came to be called Hanga and had about eighty villages in district of Mathura. Over the years, "Hanga" became 'Aga', and was Sanskritized to 'Agre'. According to the Jat historianBhim Singh Dahiya , the Hangas were a branch ofTocharians that came toBrij area inIndia and settled on the fertile banks ofYamuna River .Notable persons from this clan
