Historical significance
- Luz Marina Zuluaga of Colombia wins the only Miss Universe crown for her nation being the very first Colombian delegate in the history of the pageant. No other woman from her country has won the titlle, but there were three consecutive first-runner up placements in 1992–1994, a streak that has been unparalleled in competition history.
- Miss Holland, Corine Rottschafer won the Miss Europe 1957 title and then, she competed in the MU 1958 pageant, being placed between the semifinalists. She also went on to compete in Miss World 1959, placed as the Winner of that pageant in Baden-Baden, Germany.
- Miss Austria, who did not compete, won the Miss Europe 1958 pageant with venue in Istanbul, Turkey.
- Gertrud Gummels' placement marked the first and only time that Suriname made the semi-finals at the pageant.
