It lies on the Manchester-Preston Line, though only local services run by Northern Rail call here.
Until the late 1970s (see British Rail Timetable 1973, 1974 and 1978), Moses Gate was one of the more important stations on the line between Manchester Victoria and Bolton, with Sunday service and high patronage. But due to clearance of much housing in the area, use has declined (see Strategic Rail Authority figures) although it retains an hourly service (see National Rail Timetable). Moses Gate is the nearest railway station to the village of Little Lever. The station was staffed until the early 1990s, until the arson of the station building (see photo to right).
Service
From Moses Gate there is an hourly daytime service (Monday-Saturday) until 18:47 northbound to Wigan Wallgate and southwards Manchester Victoria until 18:46.
There is only one evening service at 23:11(Monday-Friday) and 23:16 (Saturday) which goes to Wigan Wallgate via Bolton.
There is no evening service to Manchester and no Sunday service.
