Blönduós is a small settlement in northwestern
Iceland in the county ofAustur-Húnavatnssýsla , 245 km fromReykjavík . The town has a population of around 1000, a small 9-hole golf course and is a good base for touring around theHúnaflói area.Blönduós is a busy town situated at the junction of Route 1 and the glacial river
Blanda , whose estuary runs through the town. On a hill above the town is a church with striking architecture that is intended to resemble a volcanic crater.Because Blönduós does not have a good harbor, the town's major function is to act as a dairy service center for the surrounding farm areas. Fishing and forestry research also play roles in the economy, as does tourism.
The Blönduós Police department is known for its great work and the Icelandic Fine Collection Agency is placed there.
