The museum, a part of Norwalk city government, contains archival material and other items related to Norwalk's culture and history, including documents, items of significance to the history of Norwalk and artwork.
The building was built in 1912 as Norwalk City Hall. Decades later, City Hall was moved to 125 East Ave. and the structure became home to Norwalk Museum. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 23, 1995. The basement of the building, which was unoccupied as of mid-2011, has been rented out to businesses, and business offices occupy part of the second floor. The museum takes up all of the first floor and part of the second floor.
