William McCracken, a local blacksmith, built a wooden house in a simple Federal style on Steubenville Street. The house was later moved to its present location of 218 North Eighth Street and was expanded to include several rooms to the back, a basement and a front porch, giving it a Greek Revival appearance. The house currently hosts the Guernsey County Historical Museum.[2]
