refnum = 81000429The Guernsey County Courthouse is located on
U. S. Route 40 inCambridge, Ohio . The courthouse that currently stands is the county's second building, the first being too small to house the growing population of the late 1800s. The two courthouses stood in the same spot in downtown Cambridge.Designed and constructed by Joseph Yost in 1881-1883, it is of fine sandstone block with a hipped roof and mansard-roofed towers. Stairs lead to main entrance which is covered by a small balcony. A statue of Justice stands in the broken pediment on the southern face. The central tower houses its clock and consists of louvered arch openings.
The courthouse is surrounded by various memorials to soldiers from the county in the
American Civil War ,World War I ,World War II ,Korean War ,Vietnam War , andOperation Desert Storm . The most prominent is the Civil War Monument, honoring those who fell in the local areas due toMorgan's Raid in 1863.References
