Languages Religion Related ethnic groups Matharu or Matharoo (ਮਠਾੜੂ in Gurmukhī script) is a prominent Sikh clan belonging to the Khatri/Rajput and Jat tribe.
Origins
The Matharu clan originated from Punjab.Sikh Tarkhans are more commonly known as Ramgarhias because of their reverence for the famous Misl leader, Jassa Singh Ramgarhia(1723-1803), who was a Tarkhan.
They were eventually accepted by the Ramgarhia
Jats and Rajput (mostly Tarkhans) community, A very proud and fiercely independent people, they are amongst the wealthiest and most educated clans of India. and practiced carpentry and agriculture.
They are skilled artisans in the craft of woodwork and, ivory and ebony inlay work and ironcraft and table layouts, carpentry, landowning, farming, engineering,military.
Matharus also have historical connections with people named Nanda.
